CH4 Facts: Indoor Pollution from Open Fires

December 16, 2021

CH4 Facts Graphics

Why is it problematic when 33% of the earth’s population still use open fires for cooking? Unfortunately, these cooking methods are responsible for the premature death of almost 4 million people per year. Indoor pollution from cooking can cause pneumonia, stroke, heart disease, COPD, and lung cancer. Natural gas is a much safer and cleaner fuel source for these communities, and we should encourage developments in those areas. If you have a specific question, send us a message or plan to join us at the Eastern Gas Compression Roundtable, May 3-5, 2022 at the David Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh, PA.

CH4 Facts: Polluting Fires vs. Safe, Clean Natural Gas

December 9, 2021

CH4 Facts Graphics

To continue the discussion around food safety and natural gas, the World Health Organization (WHO) says “2.6 billion people cook using polluting open fires or simple stoves fueled by kerosene, biomass (wood, animal dung and crop waste) and coal.” That’s 33% of the earth’s population. Providing these communities with safe, clean natural gas to heat their homes, cook their food, and power their lives is critical for developing areas. It makes you wonder why anyone would object. If you have a specific question, send us a message or plan to join us at the Eastern Gas Compression Roundtable, May 3-5, 2022 at the David Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh, PA.

CH4 Facts: Creating Food Containers

December 2, 2021

CH4 Facts Graphics

That was a pretty picture of canned fruit in glass jars in our last CH4 Facts post, but did you know that natural gas is a key component to creating food containers? Not just glass, but also aluminum cans, plastic containers, Styrofoam, and more. Can you think of a container that isn’t made with natural gas? If you have a specific question, send us a message and plan to join us at the Eastern Gas Compression Roundtable, May 3-5, 2022 at the David Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh, PA.

CH4 Facts: Natural Gas & Agriculture

October 7, 2021

CH4 Facts Graphics

Beyond fertilizer, does natural gas support agriculture in other ways? It sure does… let’s talk production. The term “acre” originally was defined as the area one man could plow behind an ox in a single day. When you compare that definition to what a single farmer can do with modern equipment, there is an exponential difference. Natural gas is a key component in the manufacture, operation, and maintenance of that equipment. If you have a specific question, send us a message or plan to join us at the Eastern Gas Compression Roundtable, May 3-5, 2022 at the David Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh, PA.

CH4 Facts: Transportation

September 9, 2021

Beyond medicines, plastics and climate control, are there other ways fossil fuels impact healthcare? Yes, and the biggest one is transportation. The healthcare industry depends on oil and natural gas to move patients in ambulances, deliver supplies to their facilities, and get their staff to work. Even the staff that are riding the subway in large metropolitan areas are using electricity produced with natural gas. If you have a specific question, send us a message or plan to join us at the Eastern Gas Compression Roundtable, May 3-5, 2022 at the David Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh, PA.

Technical Tuesday: Dead Weight

June 8, 2021

Learning our vocabulary can be tricky. When a senior tech sends you to fetch the “dead weight” and you bring back a lazy co-worker; everyone will laugh. Well, almost everyone… A dead weight works like the scales in a doctors office to measure pressure. You add calibrated, weighted plates to the device until it “floats out” at the correct pressure reading. While they are becoming less and less common, the dead weight is still a very accurate tool used in the industry. Learn more at the Eastern Gas Compression Roundtable on September 14-16, 2021 at the David Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh. www.EGCR.org

CH4 Facts: Power Generation Trends

June 3, 2021

After looking at the historical trends for power generation, are you curious about what the future holds? We are too, so let’s look. Coal consumption is expected to continue to fall with natural gas and renewable growth taking up most of the slack. If you have a specific question, send us a message or plan to join us at the Eastern Gas Compression Roundtable, September 14-16, 2021 at the David Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh, PA.

CH4 Facts: Natural Gas Surpasses Coal

May 27, 2021

The U.S. has been setting records for Natural Gas consumption repeatedly over the last decade, largely in part to our increased demand from the electricity generators. In fact, Natural Gas surpassed coal in 2016 as the #1 fuel source for power plants and the demand has continued to accelerate as coal power plants have been shuttered. If you have a specific question, send us a message or plan to join us at the Eastern Gas Compression Roundtable, September 14-16, 2021 at the David Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh, PA.

CH4 Facts: Natural Gas Consumption in the U.S.

May 20, 2021

We have looked at imports and exports, but how does the US consume the natural gas the pipelines transport? Let’s look. The US Energy Information Administration publishes those numbers on an annual basis. Anything surprise you in this data? Want to know more? Join us at the Eastern Gas Compression Roundtable, September 14-16, 2021 at the David Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh, PA or contact us for more information.
